Marc is passionate about helping employers manage and mitigate their legal employment risk; not only through reactive management of issues after they arise, but by avoiding them altogether through respect, education, and positive HR Management. For over 20 years, Marc has helped businesses do just that – as a big firm litigator, corporate in-house counsel, and non-profit HR executive.
As Assistant General Counsel at KinderCare Education, Marc advised the company on HR and employment issues from individual employee risk to large wage and hour class action litigation. Marc oversaw the Employee Relations function and a team dedicated to investigating and responding to agency claims and demand letters. Marc facilitated leadership meetings, trained managers with creative and engaging presentations, oversaw the company’s litigation portfolio, and managed attorney relationships nationwide. Before going in-house, Marc practiced at New York firm Proskauer Rose before moving to Portland and joining Stoel Rives LLP as an employment litigator. Marc has also served as Chief Human Resources Officer for a healthcare non-profit, overseeing all aspects of the HR portfolio as well as Risk & Compliance, worked at a boutique employment firm, and provides advice to employers on employment matters. Marc is admitted to practice in Oregon, Washington, New York (inactive), and New Jersey (inactive).
Marc is co-creator of the popular, educational (and surprisingly humorous) Hostile Work Environment podcast and has a passion for libraries, having served on the Friends of the Multnomah County Library Board and the Multnomah County Library Advisory Board for over a decade. Marc can be found hiking, reading, at Timbers games, and cheering on his twin daughters at their various sporting events.
